NOTICE
on the election of the works council for the academic staff of the university and of disability representatives on the 10th and 11th May 2023
1. 29 members shall be elected to the works council. In addition, a representative for disabled persons and two deputies shall be elected.
2. The list of eligible voters and a printout of the Works Council Election Regulations 1974 will be available for inspection at the office of the works council of the academic staff of the university (main building, Universitätsring 1, right side entrance) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until 26th April 2023.
3. Objections to the list of eligible voters may be submitted by any employee employed in the establishment and entitled to vote until 26th April 2023, 1 p.m. at the secretariat of the works council for the academic staff of the University; objections submitted late shall not be taken into consideration.
4. Election proposals, which must precisely identify the candidates, must be submitted in writing to a member of the election committee by 26th April 2023, 5 pm. Nominations submitted late shall be disregarded. Each nomination must contain a list of no more than twice as many candidates as there are works council members to be elected. In addition, it must be stated which of the candidates is to be considered as the representative of the nomination. An election proposal is only valid if it is signed by at least 33 employees, including a maximum of 16 candidates. When drawing up election proposals, care must be taken to ensure adequate representation of female and male employees. The election proposal must be given a distinguishing name. This name may be accompanied by a short name.
5. The election proposals admitted to the ballot shall be available for inspection at the works council from 5th May 2023 and shall be published on the works council's website.
6. Voting will take place on 10th May 2023 and on 11th May 2023 at the following locations:
- Main building: 10th May 2023, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. + 11th May 2023, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in the works council’s meeting room.
- OMP: 10th May 2023, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., assembly hall
- UBB: 10th May 2023, 2-6 p.m., assembly hall
- Campus: 11th May 2023, 9 am - 1 pm, Postgraduate Center (Campus Lounge)
- W29: 11th May 2023, 14-18 h, Lounge
7. Persons entitled to vote who are prevented from voting on election day (professional or other important personal reasons) may apply for an absentee ballot up to and including 2nd May 2023, stating the desired delivery address. This application must be submitted to the chairperson of the election committee by post or by e-mail (sascha.obrecht@univie.ac.at, cc: friederike.stuhler-fara@univie.ac.at, subject: absentee ballot). If the electoral committee learns from the list of eligible voters or other information that persons entitled to vote are prevented from voting in person (e.g., due to leave of absence, parental leave, military or civilian service), they will automatically be sent an absentee ballot. If an absentee ballot is issued, it will be sent together with the ballot paper, the voting envelope and a pre-paid return envelope bearing the address of the election committee. In order to exercise the postal vote, the voting envelope with the completed ballot paper and the absentee ballot shall be returned to the election committee. The voting envelope must be returned in time to reach the election committee by 6 p.m. on 11th May 2023 at the latest. Ballot papers that arrive without an absentee ballot or late are invalid. Persons entitled to vote for whom an absentee ballot has been issued shall have the right to exercise their right to vote in person upon return of the absentee ballot.
8. A uniform ballot paper shall be used for the casting of votes.
9. Only votes cast for an election proposal admitted to the election shall be valid. The nomination shall be marked with a cross on the ballot paper or in an unambiguous manner or by indicating one or more candidates. The ballot is cast in such a way that the voter places the completed ballot paper in an empty, unmarked envelope in the voting booth. This envelope is then placed unopened in the ballot box in front of the election officer.
